Default Winter wheels off, factory wheels back on, yessss!

Projected two weeks of near 60 degree temps, and I was holding on to the winters as long as possible for the below-freezing mornings. The tall soft squishy rubber handled about 8 days of ice, slush and snow perfectly, and about 5 weeks of dry freezing temps. But it's time to go into storage.

I happily swapped the 21" back on. Takes me no time at all in the garage, I actually enjoy it. Checked psi, rechecked lug nuts after quick drive.

Thank you 19" DMV1 and dark grey budget wheels, you did a great job. I'll see you next November (hopefully not in 15 days, ha).

LOL... we are happily put putting on 18" winter wheels, and probably will continue to do so for another month or two.

And your snow is done for the year?

I fitted snow tires just yesterday. They claim we're due for a blizzard tomorrow. It's been a very slow snow season this winter.

Boise sits in a valley, and it's more often dry and cold than deep snowpack. We're at 2850 feet surrounded by mountains; local ski resort is 16 miles away with good snow. And about an hour out of town is deep snow, but where I'm at we get socked with white stuff, it melts, freezes, snows a little and then melts to dry and cold.

But with the next two weeks projected in the 50s and close to 60 I was eager to take the winters off. I've driven a few days in low 40s and the handling takes a big drop even at pedestrian speeds. In hindsight I should've paid more and purchased Scorpions or Hakka R2, but oh well.

Funny...I have long time friends in Boise. Always hearing them say we're 'socked in an inversion' again. I've been at Bogus looking down on an inversion day... it's like you're floating on the clouds.

We got lucky this year here in OKC, only minimal snow so the summer tires did ok considering we only had to drive on dry cold roads with them. I am going to try and find a set of 19" or 20" wheels for next year and get some high performance all season tires.

Summer tires are dangerous in the cold weather. Be careful, its not just about snow but cold temperatures.

They have been fine so far, had several nights into the 20's where I had to work as well until 11pm. Even still, had plenty of traction and not once did the SQ5 get out of shape at all.

I am very familiar with summer only tires, just about ever performance car I have owned has ran summer only tires on them.
