Default 2018 SQ5, Replace Pads Indicator, 15,000 Miles

re: 2018 SQ5, Replace Pads Indicator, 15,000 Miles

Greetings group,

I just got this message today. After the message went away the brake light stayed on.

Has anyone had to replace their pads yet on their 2018's?

Are there other options other than OE that I should look at?

Thank you.

all depends what you are looking for. less dust with good initial bite would be Centric Posi Semi-Metallic (NOT Ceramic). this is what i have used on my wife's Q7 TDI and my mom's E550 and Cayene.

my sq5 is approaching 20k miles and brakes are still very good.

What is the composition of the OE ones? I do love the feel and performance of the OE pads and wouldn't want to sacrifice that with a aftermarket pad. Even though the OE pads are super dusty and over double if not three times (a quick search from audipartsonline) the cost of the Centric units.
I am just amazed I got the indicator so soon. The car does get driven on mountain roads fairly aggressively so maybe I shouldn't be shocked. This is my first "performance" vehicle so I don't really have a baseline to compare to.
I see the brake sensor listed among the pads on that ZeckHausen site. Is that sensor sacrificial? Replaced with pads?

To 2nd what's been said, I've used centric pads before and they worked well. Another that is great but may not have an application available yet is performance friction company. Pfc's were my go to in my tack and auto days.

Lots of corners and the torque vectoring that Audi uses by applying the inside brakes just add to premature wear! But 15000 wow.

I would be OK with Centrics but the last time I checked I couldn’t find rear matching ones. I’m no expert but wouldn’t you want to change the rear with a matching pair? I’ve been looking to replace mine with all the dust I wonder if they will make it to 30000. I will change mine early anyway just to get rid of the dust if I find a replacement.
Edit: I just did a search and tire rack has both front and rear at a great price.

All depends how you drive but I would have them check the monitor system to verify as I got 24k miles and brakes are 7/10 and replacement is done at around 2. Unless you went to the track multiple times I would have this look in to first.

Anyone know what the specs are for pad thickness? MIN..? I am going to pull the front wheels off and measure before taking anything up with the dealer.
Thanks.

as stated right above your question, but maybe it was not clear stock pads 10mm Audi calls to replace when at or under 2mm

Got it. Thanks. I didn’t read it throughly. I now understand.
I checked and the fronts are at 5 mm. Not sure what to take away from that. I suspect the sensor is calibrated correctly or at the least on the conservative side.
I now wonder if after changing pads if there is some sort of reset in the computer that needs to done or if the sensor will detect the greater thickness?
Also, in doing any search for the pads OE (Front:4M0698151AP ; Rear: 8W0698451S) or aftermarket the sensor is mentioned (4M0615121S). Is this part typically replaced at the same time?

Honestly I’m not 100% certain but just go to your dealer tell them you have the light on but you don’t think it’s due.
, they will perform a free inspection and if there is a sensor issue they will correct it under warranty
