I have had two Audi's with turbos and two with super chargers. I put at least 60,000 miles on each before trading in for the next. I have never needed to add oil to any of them between oil changes. I purchased dip sticks for the last two so I could check the oil cold.

Well, that's in a BMW. And I've had BMWs that have consumed oil. Different builds, different ways of functioning.

If your vehicle consumes oil, just add oil. Easy. All Porsches tend to burn through a bit more oil than normal, leading them to include a quart bottle bag in the back that velcros secure. It's not the end of the world and you simply get used to adding a little oil now and then. As long as it's not excessive, you should be fine.

How much reliance should be placed on the oil level indicated in the MMI?

Not a lot. Mine would dip down a tiny bit then go back up so I don't trust it.

Took the car to the dealership today. They said they checked everything, no leaks, computer diagnostic, ect. They think it wasn't properly top off. Time will tell.

I've had over a dozen new cars, mostly Caddy's and none of them burnt any oil. Todays new cars should not burn oil. Have yours checked.

I wouldn't generally consider Cadillac a performance car. It's certainly not a German-engineered vehicle. The V-series engine is a twin turbo, yes, but that's relatively new for Caddy.

Turbos are known for oil consumption, as are Audis. Consumer Reports doesn't like it, but if it's a design issue, it's just something you'll have to keep up with:

Well my 2010 CTS V-Series would agree and we are talking about newer cars.

The VW 2 litre engine has had issues with oil consumption. My '11 Q5 needed oil added quite often, like ever 700-800km. After raising it to the dealer, they performed consumption tests and deemed it necessary to replace the pistons and rings. This addressed the oil consumption issue but it did not entirely go away as it still required oil every now and then. I don't mind it once a year but once a month is not right. So far the MKII Q5 we now have does not have the same issue after approx 6,500 kms thus far.
