Default Aluminum Trim

Do people just not like this trim? It seems impossible to find available on the lot.

I'm picking up my SQ5 tonight and its standard trim. I would have had to order something else if I wanted it

Had to order mine as well to get the aluminum trim. I have never understood why wood in a car is still popular

i love my SQ5 with aluminum trim, its real aluminum.
i like the carbon fiber trim too but my friend has that and its so easy to get scratch so i step back.
its different then the loaner i drove which is Q5 with a plastic painted in sliver aluminum color.

I agree about the wood. My understanding is that dealer purchasing agents ordering a bunch of vehicles with wood trim is like realtors recommending a seller install beige carpet -- it's all about a perceived neutrality. I also had one dealer suggest that some owners complain that the aluminum trim causes problems with glare on bright days, LOL.

I jumped at my Q5 Prestige at a least-favorite dealer because they had the only combination of options and colors, including gloss oak (our second-favorite inlay). I definitely prefer aluminum, but I didn't want to wait 4 agonizing months for a custom order, and the gloss oak looks SO MUCH better than the ash inlays.

I asked what the trim costs on it's own. The dealer I bought my SQ5 from said it's $3800+ which is ridiculous. I can hand make my own out of beautiful hardwood (I'm very competent woodworking) better than OEM for way less. Alternatively o could have someone CNC aluminum for me to the exact spec for less than quoted by Audi for factory inlays. Is there another place to buy them online?
