Apple CarPlay Display Question

Apple CarPlay Display Question
Hi Guys.
Sorry if this has been discussed, I have been trawling the forum, but couldn't find an answer.
I have a 2018 Audi Q5 Premium 2.0 TFSI. Should Apple CarPlay show on the Virtual Cockpit (as I understand it, the screen behind the wheel) also, or should it just display on the central rectangular screen?
Many thanks, JP

It would be technically possible for Audi to implement CarPlay on the virtual cockpit but they haven't done so. CarPlay has built in functionality for a 2nd display but it would require Audi's effort to get it working. I wish they would at least get Apple Maps driving directions working on the Virtual Cockpit (and HUD) but I'm not holding my breath, especially not for existing models.

I wish that too, I would just like Apple Maps to show on both screens - I think it would make looking at the map for guidance safer also. I don't like having to plug my iPhone in, and I don't love Apple Maps (I actually enjoy the Google Maps app most for guidance), so I would love to use the built in Audi guidance system - which does use the MMI & Virtual Cockpit concurrently - but I find it laggy, confusingly laid out in terms of next directions, and very slow for inputting new destinations/changes to route.
My Q5 doesn't seem to have HUD. I bought with the Premium Plus package I believe. Is HUD something that can be added?

MMI Firmware update for Car Play?
Apple Car Play was working perfectly on my new Q5 until Apple updated the IOS to 11. 2.5. Now it doesn't work at all. Apple suggest that Audi will need to do a firmware update to rectify this.
Frankly it's Apple's fault (given it's a new car) for not ensuring compatibility with less than year old motor manufacturers firmware, but that's not going to change. Am I right in assuming I shouldn't hold my breath for a swift Audi MMI firmware update to deal with this?

What a bummer, sorry to hear that, but no, I can't imagine Audi rushing out a firmware update. Luckily, I never upgrade my iOS from the one that comes with (and is designed for) the handset. Bloody Apple.
