I recently purchased an '18 SQ5 Prestige. Super happy with the car! However, I started experiencing a very strange problem last night. The weather is UT has been unseasonably warm until this week where it has dropped down into the 30's. I had to fill up last night and stopped at a random gas station. When filling up, the lock mechanism on the pump repeatedly disengaged. This means I couldn't walk away from the car while it filled up. Thinking it might be a faulty pump, I went on to another. Same problem. Squeezing the pump trigger to anything beyond ~50% and the pump would disengage. I didn't have the patience to stand there. So, I went to my normal station this AM.... and the same problem. I have to stand there and wait for the car to fuel up, and I cannot pull the trigger all the way or it shuts off. It's almost as if the vapor sensor in the pump handle thinks the tank is full and therefore shutting off. I tried re-positioning the pump at several angles, all the way in, partially in, etc.
In the two months I have had the car, I have never experienced this. It might not be temperature related, but it is the only thing that is different from the weeks before. Anyone else having a similar problem or have any suggestions?

I haven't had this happen on my SQ5, but I had a previous car that would do that occasionally. Strangely it just went away on its own. Maybe it was the weather? Don't know.

A gas station attendant told me that one way to prevent this from happening is to insert the nozzle upside down and fill it that way. I have not tried this, but you may want to and see if i works.

Same in NYC most stations have removed the tab on the nozzles so you have to hold it. A lot (not all) stations on Long Island are full service only, and prefer that they pump the gas for you.. I prefer pumping my own gas..
