Default Carplay doesn't connect automatically

Hi everyone,

I'm the proud owner of a Q5 since October.
The MMI won't connect automatically with my iPhone around half of the time, and I can't isolate the reason :
- When first setting up MMI, I entered my audi id and chose phone Bluetooth with Carplay as the way to go
- No phone around with Bluetooth (which may trigger conflict)
- Tried to reset factory settings on the MMI, updated my IOS, reset network settings on my phone.... A few times... Same issue
When my iPhone won't connect to MMI, I try to connect manually with phone and MMI but next time driving the same error appears...

Thanks for your help! I really thoight automatic instant connection between my Q5 and my phone would go without saying. Especially for a brand like Audi!

Hello - I was having problems with this as well. I updated my phone software and the problems seemed to go away. Also, had a recall on my car and had it serviced for the recall - that could have helped as well. Dealer told me to update the phone software when I reported the problem.
make sure phone is unlocked when connecting.
cheers

Are you using wired or wireless CarPlay?

Hey,
I checked and my iOS version is the latest one - actual it gets automatically updated.

How can I make sure the phone is unlocked when connecting?
It is true it is often in my pocket (which means locked) but I think sometimes it connects.
Connecting with a paired device even if phone is in the pocket should be part of the expected behavior isn't it?

There is no need for the iPhone to be unlocked to connect to CarPlay. Older iPhone are less compatible but anything 11 or newer should work if the newest iOS is installed. The iPhone must be near the center console, ideally in the charger or tray under the armrest, having it in the left shirt/jacket/pant pocket works less reliable.

if there are issues, delete the phone form the car (under TEL/BT devices) and the car from the phone (under BT as well as WIFi/WLAN), restart MMI (hold volume button until MMI restarts) and phone. Make sure BT and WIFi are on on the phone.

Then find the car with the phone via BT. Once connected via BT the phone will prompt you whether or not to use wireless CarPlay. Say yes to make it work. Start over if you do not get the prompt.
