It sounds like the extraction method is the easiest but I’m not sure that you can get all of the old oil out using that method.
To me it makes the most sense to drain the oil using the oil pan drain plug so that you can remove as much of the old oil as possible.
i wonder what the dealers do to change the oil?
I used extraction and added the full quantity of oil listed (7.25L). The MMI shows full with no warnings of it being over full. If I didn't get all of the oil, it was very close and close enough. (When adding, I checked at 7L and it was not full) You can see my write up here for the SQ5. To each his / her own - I didn't want to deal with jack stands, etc. Extraction is amazingly straight forward. I've read of dealers using extraction but cannot confirm this. The

is the extraction unit most use - I used an electric model,

I don't want to hijack the OP so I'll start another discussion on changing the oil.

Regarding changing the oil via extraction, I've only done this once, and it was on my 2018 Q5. Not really trusting this method, after doing the extraction I pulled the drain plug and got a cup or so of oil out of the pan. My garage floor has a slight grade to it, so the front of the engine, where the dipstick tube is, was slightly higher than the middle of the pan where the drain plug is, so I don't thing the extraction tube got to the low point of the pan. For my next oil change I will park the vehicle on a flat surface, do the oil extraction then pull the drain plug. Hopefully less oil will come out of the pan.

Even if I never trust the extraction method, now that I've got the extraction tool I see myself always using it. While the extractor is sucking out 99% of the oil I can remove the belly pan and pull the drain plug, making the process cleaner.

Just a generic socket/torx set works (like others mentioned, get a decent brand that comes with a lifetime warranty).

You'll find on the German vehicles, there will always be a couple of elusive sizes though. A couple larger Torx bits, and a couple sockets that get missed in the metric lineup. My local tool place just sells them at 1-offs (at a premium price of course!)
