Just replaced my OEM LTX tires with the Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus, based on review/recommendations on this site and others. LTX had 30k miles and down to tread bars. The new Pilot Sport tires seems to ride rougher than the LTX, even with the LTX worn down. For example, going over tar strips, etc. Are the Pilot's a higher performance, but rougher riding tire?

I talked to the folks at Tire Rack when I was trying to make a decision and your experience is exactly what they said to expect. LTX a bit smoother, quieter and better in the snow. The A/S 3 more of a handling tire, and will give a stiffer and harsher ride.

We had the LTX on our Q5 and the A/S 3+ on a car. The LTX was a great tire on the little SUV.

As others have said, a Performance Tire will give up some comfort.
If you haven't already, you might consider reading the reviews on Tire Rack to see why performance across the board (except the Comfort) is higher for the A/S 3+. In particular the LTX has a 5.0 rating for "Would Recommend" versus the A/S 3+ rating of 8.0. Treadwear in particular seems to be particularly inferior.
Not saying that you shouldn't go with your gut feeling but to be aware of what you're giving up to stay with the LTX.

Thanks for the advice. The tires were at 33 front, 36 rear, which is what the door sticker says. But the owners manual says 29 psi for normal loads, and 33 for heavy loads in car. Since it is almost always just me, I reduced psi to 29.
Why would the door sticker say 33/36 when the owners manual says 29 psi for normal operation? Very confusing.

The LTX's are a really good tire for ride/noise. You will find the "sport" tires will give a more firm ride, with more road noise. But with that comes better handling.
