I am looking at a CPO Q5 Prestige. See attachment for all the options and pricing.
The car has about 6k miles on it and was a loaner vehicle at the dealership. They're selling it at a discount and it fits in my budget. Being a CPO, it has the 1 additional year unlimited warranty beyond the first 4 years and I wanted to buy an extended warranty. I have the following 2 questions:
1. Dealer quoted 4.5k for a 3 year warranty on top of the 5yr included one. So overall, this would bring the warranty to 8 years. Do I need this much protection? I plan to keep the car as long as it lasts 2. How do I negotiate the price of extended warranty down?
Extended warranties are expensive and the dirt is always in the details. Never trust the dealers words about an extended warranty. Sit down and fully read what is and what is not covered and you may be very surprised. If you really think you need one you are almost always better off shopping around yourself outside of the dealer. Personally, I have never found much value in any extended warranty beyond the CPO one in an Audi. Ideally if you buy one you hope to never have to use it. In your case I would put that $4.5K in a money market and use that for repairs if needed and be self insured. Looks like a nice car.
I had a friend that sold extended warranties. He said they made more on them that they did the car. Its like anything else. a crap shoot. If I thought my car would crap out on me sooner than it should, I would not buy the car. But, if you drive a ton, and it is for unlimited millage it might be for you. Also, make sure the warranty is from audi and not some third party company.
I second that. I recently ordered a new 2019 SQ5. I got warranty quotes from both Troy and my dealer. Troy's quotes were $500-$1000 lower than the dealer.
