Not saying it's common, but seems like the exact same problem and recognized as such by Audi

In the long term thread you just said metal shavings in the oil filter, but didn't specify the part that caused the shavings. It could be something else entirely. Do you know for sure this is the same issue? Or are you just guessing?

As I said, if this were much more than a statistical anomaly we'd have heard about it. No reason to get alarmed IMO. Glad Audi is taking care of it for you.

Well, I may be a statistical anomaly but that doesn't make me feel any better. It would be interesting, though, if there were actual statistics about the failure rate of VW/Audi engines as well as those of other manufacturers.

At least according to these guys Audi is second from the bottom in engine reliability, beaten only by a company that is now out of business.

It’s possible other similar repairs are protected by NDA’s.

Maybe check consumer reports, Edmonds, Kelly, JD Power????
Fact is cars experience part failures. That's why dealers have service departments. The fact that your engine failed for some unknown reason after several years coupled by so few reports here about such failures and that Audi is covering yours out of warranty puts my mind at ease about my car's potential for a similar failure.

You can cry "the sky is falling" all you want, but until I see data that backs you up, I'll just wink and say "sure it is".

Hey I'm not saying the sky is falling, in fact I plan to buy another Q5 :-)

That was 2014. A lot of time has passed since then.

Seems like he's trolling, going out of his way to needlessly alarm people.
