08 Q7 Navigation System question RE: POI
Hi there. I'm a new owner of a 08 Q7 and I have a question about the navigation system. I was spoiled with having an aftermarket touch-screen navigation on my previous car and noticed that my new Q7's navigation is somewhat lacking in features or I'm having a learning difficulty.
I'm trying to use the Q7 navigation and for the life of me cannot figure out the POI (Points of Interests). Either I'm dumb, or the design is flawed. I can't find POI's that are non-restaurant types. Trying to go to Home Depot, Post Office, Circuit City, or anything that is non-restaurant type seems to be not featured in the navigation or I'm doing something wrong.
Have other's complained about this? Or are you happy with your OEM Navigation? I feel like I went back to the stone ages in navigation. Or someone can point out my stupidity.
Thanks.

Re: 08 Q7 Navigation System question RE: POI
The navigation on the Q7 is anemic at best. I was sitting in the local railroad station and did a lookup of railroad stations and it had the closest one at 26 miles away, it never listed the one I was parked at in the POI but the icon was on the screen.
I came from an Infiniti M35 that was 3 years old and it blew the Q7 navigation out of the water. I have a 3G iPhone, I use that to find places then input the address into the Q7.
The vehicle itself is spectacular and makes up for the navigation.

Audi needs to come out with a real Nav software upgrade
Even with my 2002 BMW Z4 I upgraded 2 times the Nav software (Navteq) and with the last one I got a real search option and 3D view.
Same thing here as below post, I have to use the 3G iPhone to look for addresses and then introduce them manually in the MMI, guessing Audi will offer a better Nav with the next generation MMI.
But even with the outdated Nav I love my Q7.

Agreed. Q7 rocks except for the Nav. A cheap Garmin Nuvi is better!
The Nav on my 2007 doesn't even have many of the towns I go to listed, which is very frustrating. And having to enter letters one by one with the scroll wheel? Ugh.
Still love the Q7 though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually you can select or deselect POIs from a drop down menu.....
in your Setup. Press NAV button and then setup. Go to Map Content and select or deselect to your heart's content. The only thing is, our units are NOT retail store specific. But you can easily find museums, schools, movie theaters, etc. in any given town. For best, detailed information please refer to your owner's manual.
Incidentally, the next generation MMI is on the way.<ul><li><a href="http://wheelsweekly.blogspot.com/2008/07/audi-introduces-next-generation-mmi.html">Next generation MMI</a></li></ul>

forget it. POIs suck! I use google maps on my fone, and put it into the Q7. Audi should
seriously step up the MMI in the next couple yrs. BMW and MB both have hard drive based systems for MY08/09, and both of them, you can send directions to the GPS via google maps.
BMW's MY09 MMI now does terrain. If you're going up a mountain, you see your car in 3d on the 3d mountain.
