18" vs 19"

We test drove the Q7 again but the dealer only had 19" wheels one on the lot, the ride is very nice, firm but not as bumpy as the 18" one we drove last time. The salesperson said the 19"s are the best fit for the Q7, is that true? Although he said the 18"s give better gas mileage due to weight? The wife is totally all over the car, we will get one this week I think. Since the dealer doesn't have the 18"s, he said he would give the 19"s with the same deal as the 18"s, Black/beige only.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,

I bought an S Line 3.6 last week w/21"s... Granted more expensive tire replacement but the ride is unbelievable.. Firm, crisp not bumpy at all.. I drove 18/19" and wasn't impressed..
Maybe you should look into it....

I cant see how mileage is any better. Audi dont give MPG based on tires, Sounds like rep speak!
There are more 19" in here than 18" but the majority are on 20". So if anything the 19s should give a softer ride than average.
The 19s are a good all rounder if you are not in a very cold region.
While the 20, 21 and 22 give a more modern all rim look they are not as functional day to day. We have had more balance and wear problems reported with thinner tires down to 30 on the 22s and definetly more "Kerbing" too.
Ultimately You decide...all are good!
Best of luck , enjoy your new car.

If you like the car and deal, go for it. If there is anything you don't like leave it. Resale depreciation is the major cost. Some colours are worse than others. I have 18s for ride comfort. I doubt the 19s will be much different. New cars are like buses. There's always another one round the corner

It's ultimately the wife's car. I will have to pay for everything. From the tires to gas, bigger wheels more money on tires since they don't last that long on these SUVs. She doesn't care about the looks of the wheels, she only cares about driving it (showing off with her friends who're driving Lexus RX350s, ML350s and 50k MDXs?) and the back up camera. I'm sure when she's happy, I'll be happy... hehehehe. There are not many cheap Q7s out there with the colors that she likes. If the special lease is over, I don't think we can get the Q7. To me, I think time is the essence. White & Silver are her colors, black is already compromised and I will be the person washing the car, black will be weekly I'm sure.
Thanks for all your inputs, like Nebalt said, "just do it" but it's not my car... I have to make sure that's the car she wants and will drive with for many years ...hehehehe.
Cheers,

I hear you about wheel size and color. My g/f's lease is almost up and I mumbled something about leasing her a new Audi and picking up the tab. Initially I thought maybe an S4 or S6 so that I get to play but then came to my senses and realized a base A4 would be fine for her ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My Q7 is black and indeed is washed every week albeit complimentary valet service from BoardWalk in Plano..

Lower profile tyres usually means lower weight. Alloy is lighter for a given strength than rubber- so more metal and less rubber should reduce unsprung weight. Less rubber means less absorption so the result for ride varies. Sometimes ride can be better from reducing profile- other cases less of rubber makes it worse.
Depends on the surface, the exact set up of the car etc.
Q7 with 18s better for winter or 'off road'. 19s or 20s seem just as good ride on good roads-perhaps better sometimes. Bigger than 20 and you have to really watch tyre damage.
Must be worse on roughest roads you would expect- but i am guessing there.
Lower profile, less mass -> better consumption.
Lower profile, softer tyres -> more tyre wear and worse consumption.
