Default 2009 Q7 with loose steering wheel, is dealer responsible?

Hi, I just bought a 2009 Q7 from a dealer in Sarasota, AS-IS, no warranty on it. On my way home, on a highway, I noticed that the steering wheel was loose. Not a big deal, I was expecting to spend some money on it. But the day after on a curve it started going right and left, I thought it was a safety issue and I called my local AUDI dealer right away to schedule an inspection. Today I went to the appointment (car was bought 5 days ago) and (1* only for the Audi of South Orlando, sorry but nice people with a bad service, but this is another issue) they quote me $3300 to fix the steering rack and change the rod wheels, mentioning that it is a safety issue and I should involve my attorney with the dealer that I bought the car from. Now, by law, is it something that they should have told me? My exciting ride around the dealer on a rainy day didn't show me that there was a problem that big. Are they somehow responsible?

I don't know much about law. But I think if you signed a contract that said "as is" then you're SOL now.. Your Q7 is no longer the dealers problem. It's yours.. How good of a deal did you get? 2009 Q7's go for around $15k +/-... I think you should have the vehicle completely checked out. And fix what's wrong. Just my thoughts though

In some states you would have to prove the dealer knew about the defect beforehand, usually in court. In others, there would be a law of implied merchantability where a seller must provide a product that has basic, usable function even if purchased "as is". Check your state regs.

Thank you all. I am eating the issue. I found an Audi mechanic that will do the job with 1/3 of the price rebuilding my steering rack

An Indy mechanic is your best bet for good pricing on these expensive repairs. Since it is in there you might have them look for moisture in the spare tire area as well. This will give you a status of the sunroof drains before it eats your MMI amp.
