anyone else think the TDI just lost a whole lot of luster now that the 3.0T figures are out?

Thinking the Q7 S line is a darn good deal now.

Since I can get diesel cheaper than 87 octane where I live I'd still buy another TDI but the new gas engines will certainly be compelling to many folks. I think all the Q7s are a good deal

Tough call.

2 years ago when Oil was $100+/ barrel, diesel was more expensive (in the Bay Area) than gasoline.

Then again 91 octane is more expensive 90% of the time.

I am wondering how the math will work out over the first 5 years of ownership. The extra 4k for the TDI seems a bit steep now.

Not completely. When you go to the Build My Q7 link, there is at least one model missing.

Don't forget there are new and more efficient TDI engines in the pipeline.

I love the clean diesels for their torque, but $4k more, well thats a lot of premium fuel I can put it towards, especially that I drive around 8k miles per year. ($4k / $3 per gallon = 1333 gallons; 18 mpg X 1333 gallons = 24k miles) So thats 3 years of free gas for me by foregoing the expense of the TDI engine.

I believe the income tax incentive has expired - so no help from Uncle Sam. Its too bad - the math should work out for diesel to be the better deal - as in Europe. But there, they tax fuel like mad. But clean diesel is much better for your pocketbook than any hybrid vehicle.
