Default 2011 Q7 TDI valve cover gasket

Apparently my passenger side valve cover gasket is leaking. They did not address this last time I was in for the rear main and timing cover leak. I might take care of this myself if the procedure is not too hard. Has anyone tackled this before?

It is part of the long block. They pulled my engine and resealed it. I'd email Audi corporate and complain.

It’s covered by the diesel gate warranty.

Just an FYI, when I had the engine resealed I had to pay the diagnostic too. When I got the car back some 6 weeks later I asked about the diagnostic fee and was told it is not refundable. I said if it is covered under warranty it should be totally free. They would not refund it. Some months later I find out they should have refunded it so went over the service advisors head. The email I received back said yes it is refundable. I went in and talked to the same SA and after I got my refund I said it should be higher. You cost me 3 months interest on 170.00 They offered new wiper blades so I took it. Just because your SA thinks they know their job does not mean they actually know their job. COMPLAIN to the service manager first and go over their head if need be but I can tell you oil leaks are covered.

Here is a link to the TSB identifying all of the individual items covered by the Diesel Settlement warranty.

Do you still keep the invoice/receipt for that time(s) your car was in for an oil leak? Mine was in for oil leak before but it was the rear main seal and upper/lower oil pan leak. They just never touch the valve cover gasket. I also tried Audi of America but all they said was the dealership will determine if the repair is covered under warranty or not. SO if I can get some kind of proof that someone got valve cover gasket done under diesel gate warranty, I might be able to make them honor that.

I'd be getting under there w/flashlight and eyeballing it to see if really is leaking or not before I'd go any further. It's a very common oil leak on the Q7 and they all leak from there eventually, but is yours really leaking? I'm curious to know what they quoted you to replace it. Sometimes Audi techs tell you something is leaking and marks it on their 'free 21 pt inspection sheet' in the red zone (red=bad) to create work for themselves and generate income, not because you need it fixed right away, or even that it is a cause for concern. I've encountered that a few times.

yes, mine is really leaking, I can see it from the top as well as the bottom, it was dripping everywhere. Probably won't be long until it hit the garage floor. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow
