Based on the discussion it seems that the second generation can be replaced with out taking the bumper off, but the part is hard to find.

Happened on 2014 q7 prestige 103k
noticed a thud on acceleration
thought it was power steering out so kept going then temp gage warning
enginge temp when to max for about 5 as minutes and car would not accelerate as I tried to get if off no berm highway

questions:
1. any damage done to engine?
2. Will the timing be affected?
3. Any link to diy?

thanks for the info

Wow easier to get off than I thought.
while id parts is cheaper i just found Oreilly Auto parts has one for $344 and i can get it tomorrow instead of next week.
they call it the harmonic balancer instead of the crankshaft pulley
limited lifetme warranty
https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...balancer&pos=0

Heres to the install being easier.

Is Audi also replacing the belt as a covered component? Glad I reread this thread and shot a picture of my pulley which is close to failing. Waiting on SA for answers.

this is not covered by the extended emissions warranty if that's what you are asking.. which would be the only thing covering any of us still..

Pulley is covered. Belt is not?

Pulley is not covered, nor is the belt.. closest thing to the pulley covered by the extended emissions warranty is the front main crankshaft seal behind it..

If you tricked them into replacing it, good on you.. but its not covered by emissions warranty, never was.. attached is a list of what is covered, its not in it.. It would have been covered by the gap warranty and the original manufacturer warranty but those have looong since expired for every MK1 Q7 ever produced and has not been applicable since ~2018

Now if you have an aftermarket warranty, well then the terms of that are between you and your god for the most part.. that's meaningless to anyone but you.

Keep us posted on what the SA says. I just returned from a 2600 mile road trip and inspected mine. I am beginning to see separation on the ring and notice a little shaking when idling with the AC on at times. Hope that they can preemptively replace under warranty instead of being stranded on a trip.

Not sure what was in my morning coffee that made me think "its covered" vs "its not covered." Oh well ECS had the pulley and belt for $490 shipped. Replacing ASAP.
