is this a problem with the 3.0tdi engines or the 3.0t(sc)fsi engines?
Looked under the hood and saw that my wife's 2015 q7 tdi has a rusty looking crank pulley and I'm scared that it might go (no wobbling when idling). I know of the 3.0tfsi engines that the crank pulley is a weak spot so I replaced it on my 2011 a6 avant 3.0t with a jhm 179mm pulley.

Are there any similar upgrades for the 3.0tdi engine in regards to crank pulleys (I know that it like my 3.0tfsi because that effects supercharger rotation speed), like a lightweight crank pulley or a proven aftermarket pulley? I used to work at a worldpac distributor so I still get parts at cost + 10% but sometimes we can only source oem manufacturers and not original parts (for E.g. continental makes oem belts but when the car come from factory, the continental belts are marked audi)

These are on TDI's...You can buy a new VAG pulley for about $300. Haven't looked for an aftermarket option.

Here's mine @ 72k miles, dont look great but dont look anywhere near as bad as some of the failed ones here..

Think when the time comes to replace this I'll go OEM and give it a good painting w/POR15

the surface rust looks harmless, but it looks like there is a fracture going around the inner perimeter and thats where the rust is gonna be more than surface.. I think it's already failed from some metallurgy issue, its just time and oxidation before it completely fails.

Hopefully it was just a bad batch with inadequate metal specs, it seems to be limited to a couple build years..

Looking into this as well, so far it looks like 20 Newton-meters / 15 Foot-pounds, still looking for correct size for 12-point Bit

I have a 2,000 mile drive ahead of me so I ordered the part and plan to take with me just in case.

Hello everyone, this is my first post so i would appreciate some help. This same situation happened to me at a traffic light but thankfully i managed to park the car in a parking space.
Could someone please tell me if its safe to move the car 2-3km to my house?

What exactly does this crank pulley regulate? By this i mean will the engine temperature rise?
Power steering is dead.
Battery sign on dashboard is red. Alternator not charging.
AC - don't know if it was blowing, but it was on when the crank pulley snapped.

Thanks in advance for any help

No, definitely not under its own power right now.

Your water pump most importantly, too much risk you'll warp the head and ruin the engine driving it w/no coolant flow..

Tow it home..

Here is my 2013 with 56km that I just picked up last week. Does this look original? Audi did the emissions modification in March of this year.
