Well, for preventative maintenance I had this changed out today... just for piece of mind I don’t have this looming over my head.
Here’s what mine looked like... wasn’t to bad but it has seen better days. I swapped out with a brand new belt since it was already out. Couldn’t hurt.

WOW! Kei, it looks like you got that just in time. What did that come off of? How many miles?
You know when I had this in my hands it didn’t look that bad, but now that I stare at that pic more it does look like it’s started to crack. The dense rubber in the middle looks fine but that inner portion looked suspect.
Next up on the list I wanted to look at is that drive shaft clamp you pointed in another thread. That thing looks pretty bullet proof.
Well, I just took my 2012 TDI on an epic road trip from New Hampshire to Oregon and back...towing a 4500 lb trailer over several passes. Outside of having to learn how to put DEF in this thing (and drop shipping a VCDS cable to my buddies house in Boulder in case it needed to be reset again), this truck pulled like a CHAMP. It didn't give an F about the trailer behind it and was flawless. Anyway, a week after getting home and singing the praises of this vehicle to friends and family, I'm pulling out of my garage and I feel a thump. Power steering not working, so I think I broke a belt. Pop the hood and observe a pulley disengage at an odd angle....so happy this didn't happen in the Eisenhower Tunnel. Anyway, I have a couple of questions:
1) There was mention of a TSB for this....what's the truth on that?
2) How hard is this to do myself?
3) Are there similar pulleys that I should look into replacing too....or is this the only one that seems to have a corrosion issue?
4) Is consensus that this is not to be covered under the extended TDI warranty?
I'm not familiar with the TDI lineup but of the gas models I'd recommend going solid crank pulley. My 183mm is going in this week as mine has the slightest of wobbles and with my luck this will happen 1000 miles from home.
