Default acceleration lag??

After my wife and i test drove this a while, we have noticed a definite characteristic of the q7. When accelerating from stop or from a low speed, there seems to be a lag from when the transmission itslef kicks in.
It is definitely most noticed when at a stop light as you go to accelerate the car...it seems the car has a hard time shifting gears quickly and smoothly...it lags getting into second gear (and sometimes 3rd gear) and you can actually feel this---my wife said it feels like you are drving a stick shift.

ANy thoughts welcome.

Default While not the quickest shifting tranny I've driven, our 4.2 does not lag like that.

Have you tried test driving another Q7 on the lot? The transmission is adaptive, so if your dealer uses the same demo for everyone, I could see how the shifting is bit messed up.

Default Audi is well known for engines/auto trans combos that 'search for gears' when

stomping it from e.g 2nd or 3rd. With the adaptive chips; the S mode; manu mode, etc. options, its not difficult to work around it w/ various driving circumstances. I for one, however, am eagerly awaiting the new 7 speeds.

Default I have developed a driving style...

that feels quicker.
Tell me if I am just imagining this.
I accelerate from stand still then lift my foot a bit just as it is going to change to lock up next gear then plant it.
It may not be quicker but feels it.
Ben driving stick shift for last 21 years and very happy with my current Q shaped box.

Try starting in S - no lag in our 4.2

Default Re: acceleration lag??

see my previous post...dkstudio
same problem happpening on my Q7 3.6.
Love:
exterior (it's a beauty), interior design, 20" wheels, highway driving, sound system, etc.
Hate:
the terrible lag, rear hatch close button, valet lock that disables the rear hatch button on driver door, city driving, iTunes interface software...
Need I say more.
It's a big love hate for me.
Learning to enjoy driving it it in triptronic mode...shifting gears is fun but sucks in New York City.
