Default AdBlue warning @ 12500mi

I have a 2011 TDI with 12,500 miles and today got an AdBlue warning 1500miles. I can't remember the actual message. Is this normal? I don't remember seeing this before the 5000mi service.

Dealer should have added more at 5000 mile service and next one should be around 15K
We are currently at 14K and no warning.

part of service to top off adblue,if u do not add engine will stop running,
most of auto part stores have it now,so add a can or bottle and take it to dealership to top off,
hope that helps,

I understand that they top off during each service. I was only surprised to see it come up so early @ 12500 mi. Eggy is at 14000mi and has no warning. I was concerned that my dealer did not top off at the 5000mi service. Or maybe not enough. Although the receipt showed top off AdBlue @ 5000 mi service.

Now every tine I start the car, I get the message on the dash "Refill AdBule 1500 miles".

If they charged you for top off then you should get to next service so either they owe you more fluid, they need to re-callibrate the settings or find the leak.
It seems to be their problem whatever the cause.

The system has two connected tanks, one being a header tank. Perhaps it takes a bit of time to filter down if you do a rapid fill.

PS There are 5 adblue references in the spreadsheet... including Adblue consumption set too high and adblue reset code reset incorrectly sent to wrong port.

Please report back with your solution.

Extensive discussion and some very good diagrams of the system in this thread:

Also, the latest firmware upgrades to the system no longer require a dealer reset when adding the AdBlue or DEF.

So I went to the dealer where I bought the Q and where I got it serviced at 5000mi. They wanted to charge me $45 to add adblue. Or wait until my 15k and get it filled during maintenance. So either pay, wait or do nothing. So I left and went to another dealer closer to my house. Gave them the same story and they suggested to do the 15k maintenance. Since i'm already at 12,500mi, I decided to have them do the 15k maintenance, no charge since I have Audi Care. By the way, total cost of the 15k maintenance, if you don't have Audi Care was around $475, of which $175 is the cost of the parts, rest was labor.
