I'd like to NOT pay the dealer premium for a new battery for my 2015 Q7.

Can anyone tell me what battery brand can be purchased as an after market battery that can still be coded to the car with the VagCom? Good source?

The battery Coding isn't really used for anything. (here come the rants lol)
I installed an "AutoCraft Platinum AGM Battery, Group Size H8, 850 CCA" from advanced auto and just added one to the serial number that was in VAGCOM already.
Mine was listed as 4F0915105D, serial 1234598766, Varta

This is for your 2015? That is really bad the battery is dead after 3 years? my factory one was good for 10 years.

So far, so good on mine; although I wonder how long it will last since - after the "fix" - it goes through the DPF burnout almost every time I shut down.

Just get a good AGM battery (i.e. Bosch) and then the coding assists in resetting the battery mgmt. system to be aware of when a new one has been installed. A simple single digit change in long coding for serial number with VCDS is all that's required.

My dealer was only $10 more than a Generic battery from Local Automotive Store, so I just went with OEM.. $210 from Dealer Parts Counter

AFAIK the coding can just be incremented, new coding just resets the aging algorithms and thats all that needs to be done is tell the charging system it has a new battery.

Interstate makes the OEM battery, so any of the various brands that are also made by Interstate also work. If you're planning on keeping the Q7 forever, you might want to get one of the Autonation Lifetime batteries (if you live near an Autonation dealership), since they not only include the battery in the warranty, but also the labor and VAG coding for replacement. Their batteries are made by Exide, and they have both an AGM and non-AGM version.

$210 installed? That's cheap.

I recently had my gen 1 TDI in for the complimentary oil change and they said the battery tested faulty (although it starts fine)....said $430 for a new one. After laughing in their face, i proceeded to tell them i'm good and went about my day

no that was at the parts counter, I installed it my self as I've had a set of tripple squares and a vag-com for nearly two decades now.

I did haggle a lil IIRC, I think online it told me one price and in-store they told me another.. I pulled up their online price and he honored it.. I had to take the core back later that week to get it for the $210 tho.. Local auto store wanted $199 for a generic battery of similar capacity.
