Annoying iPhone music playing problem

In the past read about the annoying iPhone (also iPod?) music playing problem in Q7 where the playing always starts from the first piece stored in the device after connecting the cable. Did not find the threads so started this new one.
Last week in Germany had a rental car, MB CGI E200, which also had iPhone connection in glove box. Surprisingly in this car my iPhone always started music from where it left it when I made a stop and disconnected/re-connected the phone cable! It did not re-set to start from the first piece!
I always thought that start from first piece is an iPhone software issue but obviously it is not. It is car software issue.
Other than this, MB CGI E200 with "Blue Effeciency" did not ride as well as my 3.6 Q7. MB makes good cars but Q7 gives a better ride than this one.

I have the Dension aftermarket version installed. It always starts from where I left off. I wired it to a permanent live. The ipod shuts itself off after a while anyway. Perhaps that is the difference.
Does anyone know if the AMI is disconnecting at each ingition kill? Has anyone tried taking power from a permanent feed with Ami or retrofit AMI?

I think the problem is something else than just disconnecting. In the MB I disconnected the phone from the car several times and every time when I re-connected it playing started from where it was stopped. Playing also started automatically as soon as I made the connection if the car was running.
I think in Q7 and perhaps other Audi cars iPhone iPod player is somehow reset every time AMI power comes on.
I also think AMI kills power after the power delay of about 15 minutes after car shuts off. Similar delay works when you turn MMI ON by pressing the control or volume **** without key in. It times out after 15 minutes (that is what I remember the delay time is).
