With the gasoline pipeline break in Alabama and the resulting gasoline shortages in Georgia, my local gas station has plenty of diesel while the gasoline nozzles are dry and covered.

In Alabama, we have not had significant shortages due to the pipeline break. Not sure why. We HAVE seen a price increase of about 15 cents per gallon on gasoline. Diesel has not been affected but I do wonder because there were reports that Colonial would use their diesel pipeline to transport gasoline during this crisis. I do wonder how they prevent mixing when they do that.
The shortages have likely been due to increased demand due to everyone filling up because they heard that there could be shortages as much as (or more than) they have been due to the distribution problem.
I love our TDIs 600 mile range too. During the $3.50 per gallon fuel prices we had 2 years ago, diesel cost about the same as premium. Now it is usually 10, 20 cents higher than regular. Varies from state to state due to highway taxes.
