Dealer today told me that my Q7 is on a boat. The order system says it's due into the dealership the week of December 14, but that the date might move up...
This seems odd to me that it's on a boat now, 11/3 but won't be delivered to the dealer until 12/14??
I'm in North Carolina - anyone have any comments on the average time to delivery after it's loaded on a boat?
I feel like a little kid who can't sleep the night before Christmas!

It is strange that your Q7 is on a boat now based on my response from the salesperson. According to him, my Q7 (ibis white, TDI, s-line /w 21") should be shipped this week (11/16), arrive at the US port 11/30, and released to carrier on 12/7 headed for dealer. I should be able to pick up 1 day after arrival at dealer - I am hoping for 12/11 at the latest b/c there are so many things that can cause delays. That said, all of this sounds reasonable and to my favor so I am going with that :-)
I think the salespeople say whatever they think is right based on experience and seem to always over estimate. I had to ask the right questions vs. the generic "When is my car getting here?" for them to give detailed responses. The more they think you know about there process the more detailed the response. For example, I know that when there is a VIN then the car is in production and production takes 1 week. So my question was "What is the VIN?" and not "Is my car in production yet?"
That said, ask the dealer what is the expected port date?

As an update, to give everyone an idea on production lead times, my 2010 Prestige TDI S-Line, ordered on September 11 and originally quoted 90-120 days is due for delivery the week of December 14.
Dealer still shows it being on a boat and my salesperson isn't nearly as forthcoming as some others I've seen on the other models boards who have nice lists of dates and things that happened on those dates, like production, released to port, port arrival, etc.

Another update as well. My 2010 Q7 arrived in port today and going through customs to be released to carrier on 12/10. Depending on how fast it gets to the dealer I should have it either 12/12 (ideal) or 12/14.
I have learned that there is a backup for the Q7 and the reason that I was able to get it sooner vs. later is b/c the dealer that I eventually went with had an allocation for a Q7 that month. If they did not have a pre-existing allocation then the wait would have been much longer.
The process works like this...each month Audi allocates a number of cars to each dealership (basically a confirmed place in the production line). The number that each dealership gets is probably based on their relationship, previous sales, location, etc... If your dealership has an available allocation for that model then the build should be around 90 days. Otherwise, they can forgo their allocation or have one built to generic specs. If they have no allocation for an order then it goes into the order bank and waits until it can be built or they get an allocation for it.
Here is the skinny if you need your Q7 fix now...call around to different dealerships to see if they have an available allocation for that month.
