Just took delivery of a Q7 with AMI. No cable in the vehicle but the description of the option from the Edmunds site says this should include a cable.

Did everyone here have to buy their cable? The MMI manual shows that perhaps I should get both the iPod one and the 3.5mm one. What have others had to do here? The dealer is trying to figure this out. OK, so it's $50, but if it is supposed to be there, then...

it isn't included, you have to buy it from the dealer

My Ipod cable was included and I had them exchange it for a Mp3 cable.

I have Creative Zen Vision and needs to know how players different than IPOD can be used.

Via the mp3 cable. You won't be able to control it by the MMI though.

-use the iPod cable with any of the appropriate iPod versions that use the standard iPod connector. This allows for pretty much full control via the MMI including playlists, artists, display of songs, etc.
Added benefit is that it charges your iPod while it is connected.

-use the MP3 cable (3.5mm male) to attach any variety of players and phones or any audio source. This acts much like a traditional AUX input where the stereo is simply receiving the feed and playing it over the car sound system.

-use the USB cable which will take devices like the iPod shuffle or Flash memory devices commonly referred to as thumb drives or jump drives. I've seen this cable listed and the functionality described stated late '07 availabiity about the same time as '08 models arrival--I think it is out but not sure. Also believe it requires an MMI software update to work. File folders stored on the flash memory device are read as playlists by the MMI readout. You navigate and play...very slick.

AS FOR the cable deal with AMI integration package--my dealer gave me my choice of cable, iPod or MP3. And according to most official descriptions of the AMI package, that seems appropriate. Dealers making you buy it are in my opinion incorrect and cheap.

UK based Q7 owner with AMI...cable not included...cost £30 from dealer...bit harsh really....what use is the AMI without the cables anyway?
