Audi Q7 import to Canada
#2
No, but I am just about to...It seems there won't be any problems.
- I confirmed with Audi Canada that the manufacturer's warranty is transferable.
- The Audi Service Maintenance package is not transferable though (oil, services). However, you can still buy one in US ($800) and drive your Audi there for those services. It's easy if you live close to the border. Otherwise, you already saved over $10K so it's not a big deal.
- Called a local CAN dealership to double confirm re warranty. Yes, it's fine.
- Called a couple of US dealers in WA state. Yes, they are willing to sell any car (new/used) to a Canadian. They will help with all necessary documentation. They seemed to know the whole process already...
BTW, I still confirmed with Audi US if individual US dealerships are allowed to sell to Canadians. Quote: "They are not supposed to as per...., but they do and we don't impose any penalties on them...."
- Obviously, you don't have to pay local WA state tax. But be firm there, as some salesman will tell you that you need to pay, but after talking to their managers and/or accounting it's confirmed that Canadians do not pay local US state taxes on cars.
- Re necessary modifications, you only need to enable daylight running lights (after talking to Audi Canada). However, a US dealership thinks on some Q7 models DRL are already enabled by default (it seems it is by looking at standard features on US audi site). If it's not enabled, it's around $250 to be done in a Canadian Audi service shop (Vancouver specifically).
- Expect to pay 6.1% (or similar) on Canadian customs as the car is not manufactured in North America.
Well, that's it in a nutshell. I won't be able to provide any more details as I plan to get a new Q7 2012, custom ordered (3-4 month wait, $1000 deposit).
I hope this helps or simply put things in perspective...
Cheers

Correction:
US dealers will not sell a brand new Audi to a Canadian resident with no US residency (at least in WA). A couple of dealers just called and changed their original answer.
