Default Cargo Carriers

The Q7 has plenty of room for me for normal use, however if 4 guys want to go on a golf trip, there is simply no room for anything other than clubs. I wonder if a roof rack or a rear hitch cargo box would be better. The cargo box will probably hold 4 sets of clubs, but I'm not too excited to have this hanging off the back for several days. Tule makes a realy good looking roof rack but I don't know if 4 sets will go in it. As well it would be inconvenient to put them up top. Any golfers out there with a solution????

I have the UK Thule bars (cheaper and better looking than US version - do a search) and use them with a Yakima Skybox for roadtrips. Not sure about Thule boxes, but the Skybox is nice and wide and would easily hold 4 golf bags.

If you can get the clubs to fit in the vehicle, you may want to get something to hold the luggage.

A picture of my box is attached (cascade 1600)with uk sourced thule non-aero rack. It holds our two golf bags and a LOT more. I think 4 carry bags would fit fine.

Other ideas
-the center of the second row seat folds down so you may be able to extend one bag through there to increase usuable space.
- use the foot space for small bags with the 3rd row down
- we use large duffel bags for trips and can get 4 of them, standing on end, behind the 3rd row

We don't have our Q7 yet, but we will be using a Thule Atlantis 1800 that we currently use with our Touareg. It has a pretty good volume, but I'm not sure if it will hold several bags of clubs (but might hold luggage ok).

Thanks for the responses. Just for everyones information, when we were looking at cars before purchasing the Q7 we drove a Mercedes GL 320. We had a G 500 before so this was a logical choice to go to the diesel and slightly more room. I was shocked to find out that golf clubs would not fit across the width of the cargo space. Yes there was more overall room in the mercedes and if 3rd row seats are important it is better in the mercedes, but for my needs I wanted the clubs to go across not long wise. In the Audi, you can fit 4 "normal" bags across without stacking. Additionaly, we chose the Q due to the ride, handeling, performance and overall fit and finish. We miss the uniekness of the G 500 but welcome the 25 mpg and creature comforts of the Q. 12 mpg just got old after a while. Surt
