DIY Oil Change on a Q7 TDI 3.0L CATA Diesel
#21
Newfoundland? Holy smokes! I go up every March (to "Town") with friends from Halifax, he works for Corby Distillers, and works a deal with Linda at the Inn of Olde for a full night, it's an event for sure.
I guess I can get these parts from the dealer, wondered if there was a preferred online vendor everyone likes to use.

Anyone else snap the small coolant line that is over the oil filter canister? When reinstalling the filter it snapped and leaked coolant into my filter housing. Line appears to be a cooling line for EGR, super brittle plastic covered with a flex wrap to hide the fact that if you tweak it, it will snap. Classic Audi Engineer booby trap for anyone trying to maintenance their own ****....
Does anyone know the part number for this? I can't make out the one printed on sleeve (2010 3.0 CATA) Good news is I'm guessing the stealership keeps them in stock since it is super easy to break, and customers probably don't like oil changes turning into multiple days in the shop....
Thanks in advance.

What would happen if i used Mobil 1 0W-40 Synthetic. It's approved for most porsche/audi/ vw but no mention of 507.00 specifically.
I have been using it on my past vw/audi gasoline engines with no problems. Not sure about the Q7 TDI so i am asking the question. I can't imagine anything serious would happen...

yea it appears that way. It sucks because the Mobil 1 0w-40 is about 40% cheaper than the Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30. Is cleaning or replacing the DPF a maintenance item at any point for the TDI ?

The DPF cleans itself automatically, by burning the particules that are trapped inside. But they do have an expiration. So if you want to make it last longer, stick to 507.

Smith,
Thanks for the information on DIY oil change. I am new to this whole DIY thing and would like to get my feet wet in this. When you drained the oil from the drain plug, Did you lift your vehicle using a jack for easy access?

If you vacuum it out through the dip stick tube, you don't have to jack the car nor do you have to get your hands dirty.

Yes that's what I am planning to do. Mine is the new 2017 Q7 and the oil dip stick is electronic. Still trying to learn the nitty gritties before I actually start my DIY project.
