Door Locks and Key

Hello all,
I am a tranplant from an A8l to a Q7. So far, the Q7 has been great. I have a couple of questions please.
1) How can you lock the doors if the key fob is not working (see question 2)? My baby is in the second row on the passenger side. When I get out, I have to take the child out, go back to the driver side and use the key manually to turn the lock and then lock the car. The lock button does not work (I do have the child protection button turned off) from the rear door when it is open.
2) A stupid thing I did. I jumped into the ocean with my key in the pocket! Of course, now it is not working. What is the cheapest way to get a new/used key? The dealer said it is $300 to replace it!
Thanks.

All keys and car are programmed together with car so its not just a case of replacing the unit. They actually have to hook the car up with Audi GMBH to do it too.
The manual locking should work from either door.
Did you try a new battery in it? Time delay will prolly mean this is too late.
Final solution: Use the other key;-)

you can also try a hair dryer on a low setting if you want to try to speed up the process.

The water is bad but the salt killed it.
Since it is already DOA a rinse in alcohol may clean out the salt.
Then you can place it in a bag of uncooked white rice.
The rice helps absorb the moisture, leave it in for a couple of days.
This has worked for me on cell phones that have gotten wet.

Will try the alcohol!
Also, is it possible to find a cheaper used key and have the dealer program it?

You'd still need to get the key cut properly and reprogrammed by the dealer. It might be worthwhile to call around to other dealers in your area for a price quote. The key fob itself is only about $110. $190 or ~3 hours for labor seems a bit excessive (I don't know how much time it really takes to do, however, so maybe it is reasonable)
