Default Driving in heavy snow

About ready to take my first road trip with S-Line 4.2 and 20" tires. The weather report is showing 6-10" of snow. Anyone drive their Q7 in this kind of weather yet? Observations? What to expect w/ handling?

Default Re: Driving in heavy snow

We've had the Q through 8 inches of fresh snow, on glare ice during heavy freezing rain and in serious slush.

You will be pleased with the performance even with the 20" all-seasons, though we've downsized to 18" with dedicated snow tires for winter.

This machine seems extremely sure-footed within reason.

The mass of the beast just seems to cut through it all -- effortlessly. But watch out in slick, treacherous conditions, especially when you need to slow down or stop. This machine is heavy, and the ABS seem to take over almost immediately.

So far, we're extremely impressed and satisfied.

Default It should do just fine. I went with 18" winter tires for better traction but also...

to protect the 20" S-line wheels from potholes and road salt. I bet the 20" OE wheels cost four times as much as the 18" AT Italia wheels that the winter tires are mounted on.

Default Do you recall the bolt pattern (and offset)

Any idea if 17" Touareg wheels would fit? (5x130)

Default 18"

When you downsized did you have to remove the "spacers" they put in for the 20"'s?

looks like the same bolt pattern as the Touareg. Anyone know if Touareg 17s would fit?

The 17" wheels may not clear the brake calipers and rotors.

Default Do you know how big the Q's rotors are? The Touareg has 330mm Front and back that

are OEM'd by Brembo. It may end up being a mute point since I don't know if the TPMS sensors on my 17" Touareg wheels would even work on the Q7....

Default Front and Rear Brakes

The brake system on the Audi Q7 consists of 13.8-inch (350 mm) front disc brakes with six-piston calipers and 13-inch (330 mm) rear disc brakes.

Default I drove in about a foot of snow just this past week.....

it was fun. and the Q7 handled better than I expected. It got kind of hairy when I took it to 60mph in the back roads near my house. You'll love it.
