The tips do get dirty
I clean mine with simple old "Bon Ami"
I have also used brake cleaner in the past which works extremely well as most deposits are carbon based, just use in a ventilated area.
Worst case scenario, if they get so bad and discolored you can also try painting them with a product from Rustoleum. Just remove the whole tip section of exhasut and spray/paint a section you won't see and let it dry so you can see what it looks like before deciding if you like it for the visible section. A nice dark metallic "gunmetal" finish would be a nice alternative to chrome and a finish you see occassional on some OEM tips

Just cleaned my tips on my '09 335 which had a LOT of carbon buildup and nothing appeared to work, even the Bon Ami with a Blue scotch pad (non-scratch). Had to step up to using some fine wire wool and Bon Ami and it all came off nicely.

Pics would be nice. Updates Welcome. Everytime I see the new 2010 TDI I get a twinge of disgust that Audi couldnt put some polished tips on the 3.6. As stated many times, even Kia and Heyundie put polished tips on their econoboxes. Sad Sad Sad

In these pictures you can see the mufflers installed on my Q7. Ordered them from Hong Kong on e-bay. Very easy to install, just slipped over the originaly ones. May be different opinions of the result, looks a bit bigger than the original ones. Looks a bit cheep maybe..?

The cut is not straight, but with a different/smaller angle than the original ones under. This is visible as long as the inside is not covered with black carbon particles. Probably just a matter of time.
Except from this, the mufflers look very good, and the quality is impressive considering the price. I believe I paid around $40 including shipment from Hong Kong to Europe.
I replaced the original 3 screws on each muffler with stainless ones. Probably not necessary, but I had them available.
