If you fit in your old 993, this will not be a problem. Actually, I have exactly the same unit in the same place and don't even notice it is there. The angle of the picture makes it look more obtrusive than it really is.

I'm 6'4" and 260 lbs with very long legs. No interference whatsoever.

Unfortunately, that's one of the reasons I got rid of it. It was very uncomfortable for anything longer than about an hour. I would have sold my kingdom for a tilt/telescoping wheel in that car. I looked into a "D" shaped wheel to give me a bit more clearance for my legs but I never got around to it.
