Default Faulty Key

Our car went in for it's first service this week using the key I use to drive it.

Both my wife and I use the car using separate keys.

When we got the car back, the car would not respond to my wife's key. Neither the remote nor the starter motor. Inserting the key into the ignition has no effect at all.

Inserting the key into the driver's door lock, holding the key in the unlock position and pressing the unlcok button causes the windows to come down. Other than that, nothing.

According to Audi, this key has has all of a sudden become faulty, can not be re-coded and another key needs to re-ordered from Germany.
I have tried all the different recoding methods none of which work.

Although it's possible that my wife's key may have gone faulty while sitting at home for 2 days, something they did during the service must have caused this.

Anyone out there have any knowledge on this?

Default Try the third non remote key that came with the car...

It has no batteries but starts and locks the car.
If that one does NOT work then they have reprogrammed the car with the one you left in.
If it works then they are correct about your second key.

Reprogramming can only be done with direct connection to Audi AG and needs both car and key. I can think of 3 reasons:

1: they mislaid/broke your key so they programmed another with car causing your other to obselete (Did you get back your actual key scars an all).
2: they wiped your first key by accident and had to reprogramme but no one told the boss.
3: Lightning hit your second key while you were not looking / they were correct and it burped.

All of that aside I think if you leave a key with dead or no battery for long period it needs reprogramming...not to sure about this one.

Default Re: Try the third non remote key that came with the car...

Thanks for reminding me about the plastic key.

I just tried it and it does not work to start the car. (Made me think that your point 2 to was the likely case) however, could this be because we have the immobiliser feature in this country and the plastic key does not have the transponder built into it and would only be good to unlock the car but not start it? I never tried it before.

I don't like being made a fool of by dealer's bull@#$%ing me so I want to get my facts straight before "chatting" to them.

Default The Audi immobilizer is standard here too...mine works

Either way its a good reason to go back and quiz them.
You could ask them to show you on a demo model on the spot.
Trust me they do lock unlock and start the car!

It really sounds like the fvcked up. Looking foward to the update.
