Default Fuel Gauge, Range and MPG Reading Issue

Hi hoping somebody can help point me in the right direction. I have a 2007 3.0 TDI Q7. The fuel gauge itself is working fine and showing what appears to be the correct reading until it gets to the red but will not move down into the red (not a sticky gauge as it drops down when the ignition is off). The range is wildly out, 1250 miles at full tank (if only) and once gauge on its lowest point coming onto the red still shows 195 miles. The petrol light does not come on either and for some reason the mpg in all readings is blank just displays --- . Please help as other than this issue the car is mint and has been plugged into the VAG-COM showing no faults. Thanks.

Q7 has a fuel tank shaped like a horse saddle. There are balancing pumps and systems inside. It is possible, if they are not functioning properly to actually run out of juice and 10 minutes later have a 1/4 tank left.
By the same token you will get estimates from the high side telling you double as it is assuming the other side is balanced.
Sometimes you can hear a rush of fuel when you are just below half full as you are maneuvering slowly.
Your problem is not unique but not reported for many years as they must have improved it in later production.
See Audi Q7 Service Training Self Study Programme 361 for an overview and part names. It will give you a great understanding of your problem or potential problems.

Thanks for your reply and taking the time but i haven't ran out of fuel as the gauge does work until the point it hits the red and wont drop any further, as i understand it you can set or reset the range when you have a full tank on the VAG-COM, but don't know what that should be set at, and because this is out i think it is why the fuel light does not come on at the point of red on the guage as it still thinks there is 195 miles range, and at the moment showing 1250 miles at a full tank, so in short i think i just need to rest the range at a full tank?

Hi there. I've got the exact same fault on my 2006 A6 and have been scouring the net for solutions after my local garage convinced me to change both fuel senders (which made no change).

Have you managed to solve your problem?

Default HELP NEEDED PLEASE!

HELP! I've got the exact same fault on my 2006 A6 as you posted about your Q7 back in November last year. I've been scouring the net for solutions after my local garage convinced me to change both fuel senders (which made no change).

I cant find anyone else who's ever had this problem.

Have you managed to solve your problem?

Thanks for your help
