Had the Gateway 500 installed behind the glove box of the Q7 and the installer just left the ipod cable protruding. Does anyone know how to get at the box they installed behind the glove box?(ie remove rear lining of glove box) Then I can get at the Aux box in order to update the firmware, change configuration etc.

This is very simple, just a hand full of Torx fixing around the perimeter.
HOWEVER!!
You are very likely to cause an Airbag fault Code, as there is a cable in the back of the unit which must not be disconnected if you want to avoid this fault code. If you have VAG-COM or something similar (or a friendly dealer) it takes 2 secs to clear the fault code.

still I'll have a look around the glove box and see what I can do. Thanks for advice. I was surprised when the installer left a too neat installation! I presume all the settings menus for the Dension come up when I actually get round to plugging my ipod in

It's held in by 3 clips and can be removed by prying down and disconnecting the electrical harness. I can send you a snapshot from my Bentley if you want; just drop me an email.
