Has anybody replaced windshield yet?
my Q7 without front windshield
Original Windshield
Hello all,
I just had to go through 4 different Pilkington OEE glass and 2 Pilkington OEM glass to find the one with the minimal defect.
Got my windshield cracked, my insurance said they will only cover the OEE glass. So I gave it a try.
Out of all 4 OEE glasses and 1 OEM glass, they all had some degree of distortion.
After changing 5 different glasses with rain sensors and 5 weeks of trying new glasses every week, Safelite and GEICO refused to cover furthermore.
They claimed that there are obvious problems with the manufacture as Pilkington was the only one making the front windshield for Q7.
Anyway I ended up trying the last one (6th), another Pilkington OEM, which still had slight distortion but so far this one was the best compared to other 5 glasses tried.
At least I don't feel dizziness whey I drive with this one, so I settled down and took off as I didn't want to waste more time.
Is my insurance and Safelite screwing me?
or there's really problem with the manufacture,
perhaps I am too meticulous about the glass?
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

I had a windshield replaced in '08 or '09 and there was some slight distortion near the bottom edge but not enough to cause me issues. I don't recall if was a Pilkington or not. (sold the Q7 in 2010). The vendor was not Safelite but a more local shop. The one issue I do remember was that the wiper arms were removed and when they were reinstalled the technician could not get them to work. (We eventually figured out that there is an interlock and the wipers do not work with the hood open).

Yea had a window replaced on my q7 2 years ago. I was cleaning the window at the gas station, lifted the passenger wiper arm, the wiper came off the arm and the arm snapped back down. At first it just put a small chip in the window, after two days it spread across the middle!
Be careful when you lift those arms!
To get back on topic, insurance replaced it with oe plikington glass, no flaws that I hav ever noticed. Window may be different as I have lane assist.

cost the insurance $1100 for the OEM windscreen, bought some genuine wipers after that.

Replaced mine through safelite this past February. I demanded OEM glass and there were no issues with the glass except for the week wait for it to arrive and the install went flawlessly except for the gelpack which had to be replaced twice before the rain sensor would work correctly.
2 days later, driving to Dallas and a rock flies up and chips it...Safelite repaired for free when I returned home and you can't even see the small repair. I was so angry when that happened on a brand new windshield...oh well.
I will use safelite in the future for sure, they were GREAT in my experience.

mine was replaced. demanded OEM glass and eventually got it. Had an awful experience with safelight. I really wish they didn't have to get involved.
however no issues with the glass.
