Default home made roof rails

HA, I was playing around with making some roof rack rail holders. I only use the rails once a year and I think its stupid to pay $350 for a setup I'm only going to use once a year. So I found a way that works. check out th epicture if I can post them. 2 inch C clamps with a little duck tape on thge ends to make them stream lined. Seems to work alright so far. As I said I only need to get a light bag to where I'm going and back . while I'm there it will be off the car. just need to load with towels and beach chairs, light stuff. SOrry if thgis is to red neck for ya, saves me alot of money.

I found a Thule setup for pretty cheap so I bought that.
here are some pictures. C clamps rattled.

foot kit thule 4002
460 podium with
LB50 bars. $215.00

look ok I guess, I was told where I bought the setup that the this setup is more sturdy than the lower profile setup.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. And insurance too Not to mention scheduled maintenance, brakes, tires, and the much much bigger cost of the car itself.

Actually the first thing that popped into my mind was redneck roof rack. Kind of catchy.

No offense, I would suggest that if you cannot spend the $350 on a roof rack, you should sell the Q7 and get something cheaper to own and operate.

Now there's an idea - like it... Redneck Roof-Racks! 4 no. 'C' clamps, 2 no. 4ft x 3/4" steel tube and 4 no. 2" hose clips to hold it all together - total cost about £20/$30, retail £40/$60.

Got time to appear on 'Dragon's Den' next week?

What about the Redneck Roof-Box to go with it... 2 cat litter trays, a pair of hinges and a bungee cord!

I got the rack setup and bars from a local place called Dewitt Sports
6901 E. Genessee Street, Fayetteville, New York (NY), 13066, USA
Tel: work+315 446 0460. works good . Sorry for the inital setup. I guess there are some that can't take saving money for one time use application. I did notice the locks don't exist on the thule web site any more. Maybe this was a older model , don't know , but they had to charge me for the 2 day shipping from the distributor for the 4002 fit kit.
