Default How Much Does The Suspension Affect The Tyres

Does anyone know ? How much does the suspension settings affect the tyre wear?
I read that is the car is set for "dynamic" that could wear the tyre in certain places and wear more than say "Auto"??

Looking to get more than 8k miles from the new set i have just had fitted..

Thanks

That is an interesting question, and yes, firmer suspension will cause higher tyre wear because it forces more deformation of the tyre wall due to making it harder for the tyre to move away from deviations in the road surface.

I would say that using dynamic instead of say Auto or even comfort will also be a cause of higher tyre wear due to the fact that if you have selected that as a driver, you are more likely to driver faster and put more stresses on the tyres as a result - far more than the effect of the firmer setting alone.

One of the greatest factors in tyre wear is excess compliance in all the suspension bushes as car gets older - this is probably second to driving style in influencing the longevity of tyres.
