How often do you add oil? If so, how much?

A thread over at VWVortex got me thinking. These engines require the oil to be at a certain level, or damage can occur.
I'm going to go check the oil tomorrow, but what if its low? How much do I add?

I physically check the oil in all my vehicles regularly. Some use a bit, most don't use a significant amount. Check on level ground when the engine has been stopped a while. A quart will be more than enough to bring the level from the bottom of the hatched markings on the dipstick to the top.
Don't bother topping up unless the oil is near the bottom of the hatched markings and don't over-fill.
My 3.0TDi is on the long service interval and has had one service at 16,000 miles and it has now done 26,000 miles. I checked this morning and the next [second] service and oil change will be due in another 7500 miles at 33500 miles or 17500 miles from the first oil change.
As yet I have never needed to top up the oil in the engine and today the level is two thirds up the markings.
