iPod, AMI MP3 is sound Quality any good.
I have never heard any decent quality out of anything my kids have produced or friends have in cars.
I burnt a CD from three others and again kids had a few which I put in for a while but same thing, sound is $h1t (European poster, we can say things like that with our great broadcasting freedom of speech).
Is it possible to get quality or is this just about quantity.

MP3 format is 'lossy', meaning it loses information to compress the file
You can typically compensate my encoding at a higher bit rate, but it's still lossy and loses some fidelity (though IMO, only the people with golden ears can hear differences at 320k bit-rates). Other audio codecs like AAC preserve sound quality at lower bit rates, however as the saying goes, "garbage it, garbage out". You need to make sure that the source material is good to begin with.

MP3s burned using iTunes at 192 sound pretty decent to me...
Well, I just turned 41 so, I'm pretty sure my hearing is not as acute as it use to be given all the night club abuse my eardrums took in my young and frisky years...
I currently play MP3 CDs burned using iTunes at 192 sample rate. I have MMI with the Bose Audio pilot enabled and it sounds pretty close to CD quality to me given all the ambient noise you get when driving a car. If I were to connect my iPod (once this freaking AMI interface retro kit is available) I would expect it to sound the same since it is also encoded at 192.
Maybe it's the kind of music your kids are playing that makes it sound so bad? .

MP3 cd carry up to 15 times the song capacity of a standard CD, so
obviously the sound is compressed and lower in quality. While the difference is noticable on a quality lounge room system, it is harder to pick when driving. It also depends on the type of music - a violin solo or an opera are affected more than, say, rock or country music.

All different and mainly teens online. I am a nOOb.
I am bored listening to current 6 CDs but I like quality. I will take on board what you say and give my lot some unwarranted stick, like I actually know something;-)

Listen to David Gray's White Ladder on CD and then something ripped!!!
I am already getting "boring" from my right. ->
"Go play Counterstrike" (I replied with pace) he suggests and "LOLS all round". Ha ha, he got spawn camped. -> dead lol -> noob -> VW driver->
should be looking in your own screen -> ->

Unless compressed greater than 12:1 it is unlikely to be distinguished by the human ear.
Also, the lowest usable bit rate is 128 kbps, any less and you'll notice a difference. There are many variables on this including the type of music, how acute your hearing is, etc...
If you play around with it, you should find ideal settings.
