Just hoping to see how other TDI drivers are faring. So far with about 6K miles I am averaging 21.7 mpg (10.8 L/100km). I'd say this is roughly 50/50 in terms of highway/town split. I don't have a lead foot and have the oem roof racks for what it's worth. On SoCal freeways I tend to do about 75 to 80 mph, so probably a little on the faster side of the fuel economy bell curve most likely.

That's 10 mpg higher than my average with an 07 4.2 Q7. I drive aggressively and routinely hit 80+ mph. Earlier this week I drove to work ( 8 miles on rural roads with stoplights and then 25 freeway miles) and got 30.1 mpg per the instrument cluster. On that drive, I was trying to get really good mileage and never exceeded 68 mph.

I've put a couple thousand more miles on the TDI and still am right at 21.7mpg. I have been using the Sport mode much more lately - man that makes a huge difference around town as it doesn't shift so quickly. Pick up feels so much better and when I go into the mountains there's a lot less shifting and waiting for it to shift when driving on steep curvy roads. I pretty much use the sport mode exclusively now and it doesn't seem to impact my mileage noticeably so far.
