Default MMI Control Unit replacement

Hi everyone,
A question on Q7 MMI control unit.
I picked up an 07 Q7 with a 4 button MMI control unit.
I added the dension gateway with bluetooth for phone integration, but I noticed that I cannot swith to phone menu from the 4 button MMI unit.
I just picked up a used 8 button MMI unit from ebay, and I am wondering if I can just drop it without software coding or component protection issues.

Has anyone replaced an MMI control unit before? and if so, was there software coding or component protection issues to worry about?

Thanks

Welcome. BTA 1500? I think you are barking up the wrong tree. It is supposed to be compatible with all models High or low MMI up to MMI3 (which is not in your Q7 in any case).
You have to be in CD for the Dension bluetooth to work. I think its even scroll to CD6 for phone memory, something complicated like that???

Can you get a Q7 BT module for less money than the Dension and changing out a console that may not help anyway?

Thanks for your reply.
Yes it is Dension gateway 500 + bta 1500
I probably didnt clarify that I already have the Dension installed and working fine. I did the install myself and it went well without a hitch.
I initially installed the gateway to be able to play mp3 off of Ipods and flash mem.
I later added the bta for hands-free phone operation, and it works well.
however, my control unit does not have a phone/name button, so the only time I switch over to phone menu is if I place a call from my phone, or if someone calls me.
I just want to add a control module that has the phone/name button, and I am wondering if it will trigger any component protection.

Yeah I get that but AFAIK it wont work with your BTA 1500 anyway. You are just limited. Wait, does it have a second MOST circuit you can use? Or can you allocate that button in some other way.
I know this is not what you are asking, check out the bottom of the page at link. Looks like you might have some long coding to do.
Ross tech Q7 Still think its only going to work on an Audi BT module.

Not sure why it will not work since the control in the steering wheel column already works with it.
I had another response from a different Q7 forum that says its drop in. No coding required. I guess I will find out by the end of the week when I do the swap.
Thanks for for the info.
