About a week ago the mmi in my 2008 q7 stoped working and stayed on mute. I bought the car used about 2 months from the dealer with about 61,000 miles and they quoted me $1,400 to replace the Bose amplifier. The messed up thing is that after pressing the service department about things that I saw on various forum post they mentioned that the radio is working now, but said the amplifier still needed to be replaced. I talked to the finance guy at the dealer and he said that the extended warranty could be upgraded for $2,200 and they would fix the radio and I would have a warranty for the next 36k miles or 3 years. Below are my options and wanted to see what you all thought:
1) don't do anything and hope that the radio doesn't mess up again and get stuck in mute
2) pay $1,400 and replace the amplifier
3)pay 2,200 for extended warranty and get the radio fixed and will have it for other problems that could happen
Let me know your thoughts or other suggestions. Thanks

If the "extended warranty" covers any potential repair work that could cause your radio problems, then I'd go that route. It sounds like the dealer is grasping at straws and replacing random things until the MMI starts working again.

There is a "ctrl alt delete" option to reboot the MMI just like a pc.
Did you investige the amp module yourself for loose or bad connection.
I would decide depending on how long you intend to hold onto this car.
As you have already reported the issue I guess the wait and see option will cost you nothing.
