Default My opinion on the dead battery issue

This dawned on me last night in bed as I was trying to sleep. As some of you may know (from my signature) I drive a C5/A6 which was retrofitted with MMI's cousin, RNS-E. I had also installed a BT module, XM SAT radio and iPod integration along with the RNS-E. A few weeks after the mods went in, my battery died and we immediately traced it to myself leaving the key in the ignition in our garage after coming home every night. With RNS-E, the BT module does not shut down as long as the key is left in ignition. After replacing the battery in the A6, I developed the habit of removing the key after coming home every night. After purchasing the Q, I recommended the same for my wife and she has religiously followed the same program and we have had no similar issues. Now, I am not 100% sure if this the cause of all these dead batteries, but I would love to know from all those who have had this issue, if a) they have a BT module and b) if they leave the key in ignition after shutting off the engine. This "may" shed some light on the issue.

Default the problem is likely related to the key

but more complicated with the advanced key system. Our most recent battery problem was the door handle on passenger rear was not allowing the car to go to sleep mode.

Prior to this finding, dealer gave us the third degree about our shutdown (2x on stop button, not leaving key in car) to try to place blame on us.

Do you have a BT module and did you leave the key in the car?

Well said, but doesn't the MMI shut off after about 5 min, even though the key is in the ignition?

Default I think it is something different. Check the previous threads...

you will see that people noted the keys werer not onboard.
It is also fairly frequent that the battery has died despite having been recently observed to be fully charged. This was my experience too. My key is never left in the car but I observed complete discharge quite by co-incidence having checked something else for another forum member.
Top pic is not from that ocassion but represents what I saw over 24 hours of the car being parked up. <img src="http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee79/Jusfofun/Car%20stuff/Battrylvl.jpg">

I often leave my car unused for more than a week. It has never failed to start.
I often switch off still listening to the radio or CD for a few minutes.
A lot of times I do not lock my car or only lock after many hours or days.
Sometimes I switch off (radio on) jump out and lock immediately to make courtesty lights go out. There must be something in one of those combo's that triggers the drain. As it has not been a problem I havent recorded my actions or checked battery condition on any regular basis.

Default I was told by the dealer leaving the key in the car(in ignition or not):

Will not allow the car to "sleep" and electronics stay on which drains the battery(this happened 7 days after I got my Q7). Since then I have sometimes kept the key out of the car, sometimes not. The battery has died randomly a couple of other times. I tried trickle charging the battery monthly, but this makes no difference. My most recent episode was about 3 days after trickle charging. BTW mine has the tech package(smart key/BT/etc.) There is obviously something wrong but the dealer finds nothing. Overly complicated IMO as if it happens at the wrong time you could be screwed.

Default In line with this thread I have started to leave MMI...

on battery as I quit and start.
I am hoping to pick up some kind of clue.

I have only ever see it drain once so maybe this wont work but we might as well try for pattern.
