Default Oh, I just remembered the Edmunds long term Q7 had brakes replaced early too.

And to the tune of $1700.

The conspiracy theorist in me is starting to consider the possiblity of revenue generation tactics on the part of the dealer.

they're covered under Audi's inital warranty (brakes + rotors) for 12 months/12k miles

Default Re: Pads and rotors questions

Hawk makes an aftermarket pad for the Q7 now. I would suggest those-less brake dust and hopefully more pad life. As for the rotors, from what I understand, they are pretty thin so even if you wanted them turned, you couldn't. I would definitely find a local shop to do brakes. They are probably gonna be about half the price and routine for most places. There is nothing technical to them that I would only want Audi to work on, so why pay the extra $$. When mine go, I'm gonna do them myself. Oh and what I understand about why the rotors are so expensive is that they are not made of recycled steel like a lot of other rotors, so their price is more.

Default Re: Discussed before.

I am going to check with an independent Audi tech. If I have to change rotors, I am OK with that, but I still can't get over that $1700.

Default Just got quote from Independent Audi service- only $1300

For pads and rotors all around. If I have them do it, will my brake pad indicator go out automatically, or does the dealer have to reset that?

Default Holy snikeys! That's still monsterously expensive. Can you post what's costing what?

Just curious to see what's costing what, because if my wife finds out brakes are going to run $1300-$1700 every 35-40k, the Q is going up for sale the next day.

Her last car was a 4Runner and still had 60% of the *original* pads left when we sold it at 7yrs/108k miles ... and sadly it stopped a lot better than the Q does (but it probably weighted about 1200lbs less too).
