Mine had same problem, it seems like fine when there is no mirror, if you put mirror back on then does not move at all.
so, I took mirror motor off and took a part.
what i found was two small motors and worm gear set for each motor. the force from motor to worm gear controlled by friction spring. that way the car protects the motor from over turning the mirror. when you keep press the controll **** when you try to adjust mirror in side car, even the mirror stop at certain angle, the mirror motor in the housing still revolving. so, they used friction spring to protect the motors.
my problem was one of friction spring holder from one of motor was broken. it could be happen from washing car...i am pretty sure, because when i was wiping the mirror it suddenly lose angle and move freely up and down.
anyway, I put the flat small disk shape spring back in position and fixed with some silicon, some trim works was needed, of course.
it is still working fine, it has been one year, next month.
My conclusion is
DO NOT WIPE THE MIRRORS WITH TOO MUCH FORCE.,haha.

How are you guys removing the mirror? The dealer quoted me $400 to do the passenger side and that is just crazy. Motor is $65 online and judging by the way it looks, it should only take a couple minutes to install.
