Hi All,
I noticed on my 2007 Q7 that there was a piece of plastic strip under the back of the driver side roof rail. I thought it was some grabage that flew up and got stuck, so I pulled it. I think I made a mistake... apparently there is a long piece of plastic under each roof rail and I ended up pulling the entire drive side one out. Does this do anything? Is it used to prevent water from getting into the car? Anyone have any ideas?

I was told that this was a piece of plastic that was supposed to be removed before delivery of the vehicle. Dealer said they would be taking off my roof rails to remove it during my next service appointment.
Hope this helps!

You sure about this? It was always my understanding that the head liner needs to be removed to allow the removal of the roof rail (bolts). This is most definitely not a typical 'pre-delivery' procedure!

I am sure this is the problem my car had. I do not know if the strip the OP refers to is the same. Just a caution since my leak has been such a PIA.

My service tech said they had to remove the headliner and remove the bolts to remove this piece. It was a very thin layer of plastic that had dried out over time, I dont believe it was a gasket or seal of any sort.
