Q7 3.0T s line rattle when start up.
I recently purchased a 2011 q7 3.0T s line and love the SUV but am embarrassed to start it... Most times i start it, especially when cold.. there is a rattle in the motor that lasts a few seconds and seems to be on the drivers side.. Ive ruled out any external noises like heat shields. I had it to the dealer and they say its normal, they read me a bulletin from Audi saying it takes time to get oil up to the heads or valves,i forget the exact term they used as i was very disappointed.. and it may rattle for a few seconds. this just doesn't seem acceptable from a vehicle of this caliber!! Has anyone encountered this in the Q7 3.0T and did you have any solutions?? Thanks

I will try and record it..might be the best way. It really does sound like the oil isn't getting to the head quick enough aand rattles for a few seconds,, and the dealer i guess agrees as they read me a bulletin saying it was normal and not to start changing any parts. i haven't seen the bulletin so i will get them to send it to me and i will post it also....thanks

The TSB provides more questions than answers. It does not reference a particular engine - so this is supposed to apply to all Audi engines?? Seems unlikely.
The date on the TSB is Nov 2008, while I recall the 3.0 TFSI was new to the Q7 in 2011. But Google tells me that Audi announced this engine in June 2008, so seems this TSB could apply.
Need someone with some expertise on this topic to sort things out.
I listened again and don't hear it. But, my car never sits idle for very long.

Just curious if anyone has any more info on this topic. I even called the Audi help line and they spoke to the dealer and they came back with the same answer. When i asked to see some info where the TSB actually references the 3.0T they say they cant that its just the word of the Audi techs! Shouldn't all 3.0T make this noise if it's considered "normal". I just can't imagine that im supposed to just accept this, doesn't seem right!
