Just got of the phone with Audi customer relations in Michigan and they told me that any Q7 that was built before November of 2006 does not have the capability of playing MP3 on a CD and that the retrofit that is out for iPOD will not work either. and there is nothing I could do about it. They said in 3 months there might be a solution but i would have to pay to add it. Is this what other owners are hearing??? Please let me know who else is affected by this??

If the Audi OEM really will not work (which would royally suck for us early adopters), Dension makes one that has similar functionality that should.

as all the songs on my computer are AAC or bought from iTunes Music Store with DRM enabled. The drive was a rolling change, most early models didn't support it and they weren't advertised as being MP3 capable, so there is really no recourse. AMI is an option on new build to order vehicles which most dealers won't have in stock. The AMI retrofit was a given, it's been discussed here extensively and is estimated at $500 for parts and installation.
For what it's worth, iTunes will support burning with CD TEXT which will at least allow you to see the song names on the MMI screen if your computer's optical drive will support it.

Just tried an MP3 disc in my car (build 11/06) and it worked although it took a few seconds to recognize the disc. I'm sure your owner's manual is the same as mine and if it says it can play MP3, Audi should be able to do something for you. Good luck!!! Anyone know if this is a software or a hardware issue?
